What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow's feet lines in adults.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.* BOTOX® Cosmetic has a record of experience that aesthetic specialists know and trust. And, the safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been evaluated in both Allergan sponsored clinical trials as well as in 417 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

BOTOX® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a "generic" form of BOTOX® Cosmetic. There have been no studies to support that other products are Unit-to-Unit equivalent to BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Approximately 10.9 million vials of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been sold in the United States since 2002, and millions of people have already made BOTOX® Cosmetic a part of what they do for themselves. Today, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world.†

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow's feet-the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow's feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

Why is Botox® so popular?

Botox is popular for many reasons, but primarily because it works. After 25 years on the market, millions of people worldwide continue to trust the efficacy of Botox for decreasing the lines and wrinkles associated with aging skin.

It's also well-known and trusted by physicians. Botox is approved for use in 78 countries. It has undergone numerous clinical trials and research studies, with 417 peer-reviewed articles published in scientific and medical journals.

Botox is safe and quick. There are few risks of side effects when it's delivered by trained and experienced providers like those you'll find at Profound MedSpa. You can schedule a treatment over your lunch hour and be back at your desk before anyone notices you've left.

Which wrinkles can I get rid of with Botox?

While it isn't recommended for every wrinkle on your face, Botox effectively reduces the appearance of the following:
  • Moderate to severe wrinkles at the corners of your eyes (crow's feet)
  • Forehead creases
  • Vertical lines that appear as permanent fixtures between your brows as you age

If your wrinkles are severely deep, Botox might not be the most effective method to smooth your skin.

How does Botox reduce my wrinkles?

Muscles under your skin contract and relax along with your facial expressions. Muscular contractions create the lines and wrinkles you notice whenever you smile, frown, or otherwise express yourself.

Botox is injected into specifically targeted areas of your face. It relaxes those wrinkle-causing muscle contractions by partially blocking the nerve signals your brain uses to direct muscular movement.

The goal with Botox is not to eliminate movement completely, since this would leave you with an unnatural plastic or wooden appearance. Rather, the aim is to relax your muscles enough to leave you with a more alert and youthful appearance.

Do Botox injections hurt?

The needles used for Botox injections are very small and fine. The skill of the staff at Profound MedSpa means you can rely on treatments that cause, at worst, a very small pinch of discomfort. Most often, however, clients express surprise over the lack of pain experienced with Botox injections.

Call Profound MedSpa today or use the online service to schedule your Botox evaluation and subsequent treatment. The team at Profound MedSpa is ready to partner with you and work for you as you move toward your aesthetic goals.

Will BOTOX® Cosmetic make me look like I've had work done?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to your specialist about the results you want from treatment.

What were the common side effects seen in clinical studies?

Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies and 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow's feet studies. Other possible side effects include dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; a headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Please see the Important Safety Information including Boxed Warning and Medication Guide, and talk to your specialist.

How long does the treatment take?

Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatments for you. The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.
